From Plasma to Therapeutic
So how exactly are the human antibodies collected from the TC Bovine? Antibodies circulate through the blood stream and can be easily harvested from a TC Bovine by plasmapheresis. In plasmapheresis, whole blood is collected, the cells are separated from the liquid part of the blood (plasma) and the cells are returned to the body. The same process and type of instrument have been used for many years to collect plasma from human donors.
After the plasma is collected, it is shipped to a purification facility where the bovine blood components (proteins, fats, potential bacteria and viruses) are removed. The sterile, highly purified antibodies are then formulated into the final therapeutic product that is shipped to hospitals for treatment of sick patients.
