| 4/9/2008 Hematech wins Business of the Year Hematech Inc. of Sioux Falls has been named Business of Year by the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Brookings BioSpace of Brookings has been named winner of the New Kid on the Block Award, which honors the best new business started in South Dakota within the past three years. The two South Dakota companies received ABEX honors, or Awards in Business Excellence, on April 8 during a ceremony at the Washington Pavilion Each company received a granite and silver trophy. Brookings BioSpace is a state-of-the-art, wet lab and science-based entrepreneurial business. Its facility provides opportunities for emerging biotechnology companies and gives tenants the opportunity for networking, collaboration or potential joint ventures with other biotechnology companies. Since moving to Sioux Falls in 2002, Hematech has worked to make strides in biomedical research and development. The company uses technological advances to develop treatments for antiobiotic-resistant infections and produce new drugs. The ABEX awards were presented by Gov. Mike Rounds and David Owen, president of the state chamber. Finalists for New Kid on the Block included CoSentry of Sioux Falls and Solo-Step, also of Sioux Falls. Finalists for Business of the Year included Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation/Korczak's Heritage, Inc. of Crazy Horse and Poet Energy of Sioux Falls.
